About Dogwood & The Shakers

Zander Wood, the creator of Dogwood & The Shakers is from Edmonton Alberta, a prairie boy that was raised on twangy honky tonk and blues. At 20, he was living like a lot of young lost kids do in the prairies, hopping freight trains and popping LSD to escape reality. One day, a CP rail worker spotted him on top of a tank car, and in a panic, Zander tried to jump down. He lost his footing, falling under the train’s wheels, and his right hand got caught in the machinery. He lost 4 fingers. But Zander wasn’t about to let it define him. After a year of recovery, he picked up his guitar again, donning a leather glove to cover his missing fingers, and dove into the gritty blues jams and dive bars. Rockabilly became his new pulse, a place where he could pour out his story, raw and unfiltered.

Currently based in Vancouver, this, three-piece rockabilly band cranks up the heat with their raw sound. With twangy truckin' licks, slappin' upright bass, and a drummer who hits harder than a freight train.
